SARANAC LAKE — The Adirondack Rednecks Team participated in the Capital Region Special Olympics New York Polar Plunge in Lake George in November.
This is the second year athletes, unified partners, coaches, family and friends from the team plunged into 40-degree water temperatures with overcast skies. Adirondack Rednecks members Erik Viscardo, Don Moore and Ricky Sullivan led the charge into the water with 11 enthusiastic followers. The team raised $6,720 and thanked all of their supporters along the way.
Nearly 2,000 plungers representing unified schools, law enforcement and businesses took the challenge of raising funds to fuel opportunities for the 4,000-plus Capital Region athletes. Authentic sports training and competition in 22 different sports, equipment, uniforms, health and support services occur throughout the year and this event is key in fundraising. The Adirondack Rednecks train and compete in bowling, snowshoeing and bocce.
