LAKE PLACID — The Saranac Lake girls cross country team continued its hot streak Tuesday, sweeping another meet, this time at Mount Van Hoevenberg.
The Red Storm girls, which swept its two previous meets, had nine runners crack the top-15 en route to a 15-50 win over the AuSable Valley Patriots and a 20-42 victory over the Saranac Central Spartans.
The Lake Placid girls, who have just four of the needed five runners to score, forfeited their races. However, they did post solid individual results at their first home meet of the season.
The Red Storm and Blue Bomber boys dropped both of their races. Saranac Lake lost to the Patriots 23-34 and to the Spartans 22-34. Meanwhile, Lake Placid fell to AuSable Valley 21-38 and to Saranac Central 15-44. The Red Storm and Blue Bomber teams did not race against each other.
Lake Placid’s Leila Fey once again led area runners, with a second-place finish in the girls race in 19 minutes and 14 seconds. The Spartans’ Sienna Boulds was the winner of that race, finishing 10 seconds ahead of Fey, in 19:04.
Saranac Lake’s Nora Daley (20:19) and Lake Placid’s Norah Francis (20:21) finished slightly behind the two for third and fourth place, respectively.
Following the top four, the Red Storm had four girls finish to secure the sweep. Cadence Kennedy (20:54) was fifth, Clementine Guenette (21:07) placed sixth, Meadow Nashette (21:14) earned seventh and Asa Bruno ( 21:15) finished in ninth. AuSable Valley’s top finisher was Kaelin Suloff (21:36) in ninth place.
On the boys side, the Patriots’ Reece Long (16:52) and Jaden Campagne (17:27) were the first two to cross the finish line, placing first and second, respectively. Saranac Central’s Sean Dormann (17:37) finished third.
Saranac Lake’s Emmett VanBuskirk placed fourth in 17:52, and teammate Keaton Daley also cracked the top 10 with a seventh-place finish in 18:03. The Red Storm’s Rory Popp (18:52) rounded out his team’s effort in 11th.
Jim Guglielmi led the Lake Placid boys with a 12th-place finish in 18:53. His Blue Bomber teammates followed behind with Graham Scull (18:59) finishing in 13th, and Doug Guglielmi (19:00) placing 14th.
The Saranac Lake and Lake Placid cross country teams will race again at the Dewey Mountain Recreation Center at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The meet will also feature the Northeastern Clinton Cougars and the Peru Nighthawks.
