Whiteface Club’s 14th hole mastered by teenager

LAKE PLACID — A 14-year-old golfer from the Albany area tamed the Whiteface Club Golf Course’s treacherous 14th hole on Wednesday when he aced the long, uphill par 3 from the white tees.

Playing with three family members, Luke Hoffman used a 3-iron on one of the Lake Placid area’s most difficult holes. It measures 211 yards, but rises steadily from tee to green and plays closer to 220 yards. In addition, balls that land in front of the green do not bounce onto the putting surface. Instead, they deflect to the right of the undulating green. Hence, it is imperative to carry the ball all the way.

Hoffman was in the company of his father, Scott, the owner of the Northway 8 Golf Center in Clifton Park. Ben Hoffman and Asher Hoffman were also witnesses to Luke’s first career hole-in-one. They are homeowners on the Whiteface Club property.

No one could recall the last time an ace was recorded on 14 from that distance, such is the level of difficulty of this hole.

Starting at $3.92/week.
