For the second year in a row, all three Tri-Lakes baseball teams posted successful seasons. The Lake Placid, Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake baseball teams all reached their respective sectional title game, and 16 total players were recognized for their efforts on the diamond by being selected to their respective league all-star teams.
Lake Placid’s Jon Caito was named Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference Division I MVP, while Jarrett Mihill and Vann Morrelli were chosen as first-team all-stars. Teammates Hyler Isham and Owen Lawrence were named to the second team.
Saranac Lake’s Ethan Knight led the way for his team as he was named to the All-Champlain Valley Athletic Conference all-star team and was a Division II All-Star. Red Storm teammates Connor Coventry, Chayse Delosh and Zack Goetz were also named D-II all-stars. Sam Clark was an honorable mention.
Tupper Lake’s Karter Kenniston was named All-Northern Athletic Conference East Division MVP and was selected to the first team. Teammates Wyatt Godin and Kyler McClain were also selected to the first team, while Cooper Cuttaia, Luka Dukett and Charlie “Chip” Skiff were named to the second team.
The Lumberjacks secured their second consecutive banner, winning the Section X, Class C crown, while also winning the Section X East Division league title. The team finished the season with a winning record of 16-4 and ended their season in the NYSPHSAA Class C subregional round against the eventual state champion, Saratoga Central Catholic Saints, 9-0.
Kenniston led the team on the mound, while McClain was the team’s catcher and Godin played first base. Tupper Lake’s underclassmen, Dukett and Skiff, were solid in the infield and Cuttaia was key as a pitcher and an outfielder.
After losing in the Section VII, Class D title game last season, the Lake Placid baseball team was able to turn things around in the playoffs and secure its second title in three seasons.
The Blue Bombers went 11-6 overall and fell to the North Warren Cougars 15-8 in the NYSPHSAA Class D subregional round.
Apart from Lawrence, all of Lake Placid’s other all-stars — Caito, Mihill, Morrelli and Isham — are seniors who were recognized a season ago. Through their time with the Blue Bombers, those seniors have combined for an overall record of 48-18, as well as winning two Section VII, Class D titles and three Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference titles.
Unlike Lake Placid, the Saranac Lake baseball team had just one returning all-star from 2024 to its squad this season, with Goetz being the lone returner.
With a relatively younger squad, the Red Storm still put forth a solid season, recording a 7-11 overall record. The team suffered back-to-back losses to the Saranac Central Spartans in the Section VII, Class B best-of-three championship series.
Knight, a then junior, was the team’s ace, pitching in the team’s second game on the championship series. Teammates and seniors Goetz and Delosh were solid in the infield and Coventry and Clark were key in the outfield.
