Record number compete in Whiskey Run

WILMINGTON — A record number of 353 runners hailing from two countries and 16 states competed in the Wilmington Whiteface Whiskey Run 5K and 10K races on Saturday. The race goes through Wilmington at the base of Whiteface Mountain. Awards were given to both the overall and age-group times.

The top three overall male finishers in the 5K were Micah McCulley of Vermontville, in first place in a time of 16 minutes, 13.19 seconds. Oswego native Nicholas Terramiggi (17:30.51) placed second, while Jonah Kendall of Tupper Lake was third in 17:43.00.

In the women’s 5K, the top three finishers were Peru’s Erin Rasco (18:49.63), followed by Shobha Sidigonde of Wilmington in 22:04.59 for second and Rebecca Milde of Mattapoisett, Massachusetts in 22:36.82 for third.

The top three overall male finishers in the 10K were Sean Rose of Peru in 40:13.79 for first place, Michael Kubiak of Manassas, Virginia in 41:10.94 for second and Phillip Trafficanda of Wantagh in third at 41.53.76.

In the women’s 10K, the top three finishers were Lake Placid’s Syd Steger (40:52.62) in first, Binghamton resident Lily Shelley (42:58.01) in second and Elizabeth Izzo of Lake Placid in a time of 44:24.31 for third.

Proceeds from the races benefit the Wilmington Historical Society’s building fund. Next year’s race is slated for Saturday, June 20, 2026.
