SARANAC LAKE — The annual Black Fly 5K, hosted by St. Bernard’s School, drew 168 participants ranging from 2 to 75 years old. The event was held on the trails at the Dewey Mountain Recreation Center, and brought together students, families, seasoned runners and community members to celebrate fitness and support the school.
A highlight this year was the introduction of a 1K Kids’ Fun Run, which allowed students not quite ready for 5K to get involved with the race. The top 1K finishers included Connor Barden in first, Ben Arnold in second and Hudson Hagmann in third.
In the 5K race, the overall winner and top finisher in her age group was Melinda Bard, who completed the course in a time of 21 minutes, 28 seconds.
In addition to the traditional race awards, special recognition was given to participants who embodied the spirit of the event. The “Most Determined to Finish” award went to Elizabeth and John Jones, who inspired everyone with their perseverance and positive attitude. The “Largest Family Participation” award was proudly claimed by the Czadzeck/DeGrace family, who showed up in full force to support the cause and enjoy the day together.
