LAKE PLACID — Scottie Nicholas, a junior, netted five goals on Thursday evening to break the Saranac Lake boys lacrosse single-season record — now 42 total scores — during Saranac Lake Placid’s 17-8 loss to the Massena Raiders at home.
The record was previously held by Nicholas’ uncle, Keegan Muldowney, who netted 41 goals in 2008. Nicholas, a junior, has averaged more than three goals a game this season. He now has 61 total in his two-year varsity career.
Along with Nicholas’ five tallies on Thursday, Lukas Miemis scored twice for SLP, while Braydon Harvey had one goal. Mik Denkenberger added three assists, while Miemis had two and Harvey had one.
Massena is now 11-2 overall.
SLP, which dropped to 4-10, will take on the Ogdensburg Free Academy Blue Devils at 5 p.m. on Monday at Schroeter’s Field in Saranac Lake.

SLP’s Tyler Burth and Juliana Tremblay each scored a hat trick, while Lizzie Harvey added two goals. Emma Clark and Katy Hoffnagle also scored for SLP. Clark and Addison Colby added assists. Maddie Clark had another solid outing in net, recording seven saves.
SLP, which was playing their third game in four days, got off to a slow start as Plattsburgh took a 2-1 lead in the first quarter. SLP then picked up the intensity in the second quarter, scoring five goals and taking a 6-3 lead at halftime.
After the intermission, SLP extended the lead to 9-4 in the third quarter. Plattsburgh scored twice in the fourth quarter to cut into the deficit, but were unable to mount a comeback.
SLP once again dominated the draw circle after struggling for several games, as they won 14 of 20 faceoffs. Tremblay accounted for eight draw controls.
With the win, the team improved to 8-4 overall, while Plattsburgh dropped to 4-7. SLP will close out the regular season with back-to-back home games, starting today at 11 a.m. against Massena. The home finale is against Ogdensburg Free Academy at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
