TUPPER LAKE — After suffering a disappointing loss in last week’s contest, the Tupper Lake football team had just about everything working on Friday at Weedsport.
With senior running back Luke Robillard leading the way, the Lumberjacks ran through the Weedsport Wolverines 36-14 to earn their fourth victory of the season. Robillard rushed for 135 yards and ran for four touchdowns as the team recorded 310 yards on the ground.
“Luke Robillard is a powerful runner out of the backfield,” Tupper Lake head coach Dennis Klossner said. “He leads the team in rushing, and when he lowers his pads, he is like a truck running over the Weedsport defense.”
“As always, I am very proud of our offensive line led by center Bauer Callaghan, and guards Jesse Dattola and Cooper Cuttaia. They did a wonderful job blocking all night,” he added.
Quarterback Wyatt Godin was solid, completing four of his six passes for 62 yards.

“He kept his composure all game and was able to lead the team to a great victory,” Klossner said.
Robillard also led the way defensively with a team-high 15 tackles and one sack. Cohen Gerstenberger had a solid outing with 13 tackles, one pass defended and one fumble recovery, while Karter Kenniston reached double digit tackles and had an interception.
“Robillard played a great game leading the team in tackles, as well as linebacker Kyler McClain who took on the double teams and lead blockers to free up Luke,” Klossner said. “I am proud of Cohen Gerstenberger who came up from his defensive back position to make a big impact on the defense with 13 tackles. Karter Kenniston did a wonderful job for us on defense. We moved him around from cornerback to defensive back to inside linebacker. He does a great job finding the ball.”
Robillard opened up the scoring with a short 3-yard carry in the opening quarter. He then ripped off a 54-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to give the Lumberjacks a 12-0 lead heading into intermission.
Weedsports scored its two touchdowns in the second half on a 1-yard carry in the third quarter and a 21-yard run in the fourth. However, both scores were followed up with touchdown runs from Robillard.
Tupper Lake’s Kyler McClain scored his team’s final touchdown on a 28-yard dash, as Sean Bujold tacked on the 2-point conversion run.
“I am proud of the whole team,” Klossner said. “This was another big team win as we overcame a bigger Weedsport team, but the power and strength of our players from summer training showed as we out hit Weedsport the whole game.”
The Lumberjacks, which improved to 4-1, will host the South Lewis Falcons at 7 p.m. on Friday. It will be the first home contest of the season for Tupper Lake. The team was previously slated to host the Notre Dame of Utica Jugglers on Sept. 21; however, the Jugglers forfeited that contest because of a lack of players.
The home contest for the Lumberjacks will be a part of Homecoming, and the Tupper Lake youth football players will be recognized at halftime.
