SARANAC LAKE — The Special Olympics Fall Classic was held in Mechanicville on Sunday, Sept. 22. Softball teams and bocce teams gathered for the event with the Adirondack Rednecks participating in bocce.
A total of nine teams comprised of four athletes per team attended the event. Bocce was held at the Italian Fraternal Society Bocce Courts.
The Adirondack Rednecks had two entries with a Unified Team and an athlete team. In Division 1, Adirondack Rednecks athletes Don M., Michael N., Gary B. and John C. won gold winning both games with scores of 12-11 and 12-10.
The Unified Team with Erik V., Allen H., Jeff W. and Steve S. played two teams that regularly practice on the clay courts. The surface was much smoother than our practice field and our team needed to adjust their roll speed. Unified scores were 6-12 and 8-12.
The team looks forward to attending Special Olympics Area Bocce Games at SUNY Canton on Sunday, Sept. 29.
