SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake boys and girls Nordic ski teams earned a pair of wins on Tuesday at the Dewey Mountain Recreation Center in the 5-kilometer classic technique race under the lights.

With solid conditions and a deep and fast set track, the Red Storm girls topped its Section VII opponents with a team score of 10 points. Lake Placid had 13 points, while Keene had 29.

Saranac Lake’s Tyler Burth once again finished in first place in a time of 18 minutes, 17 seconds. Burth crossed the finish line 30 seconds ahead of the Blue Bombers’ Maya Garrison. Lake Placid’s Harley Cohen grabbed the final podium spot with a time of 19:47. Pia Morrelli was Keene’s top skier placing sixth in 20:52.

In the boys race, the Red Storm’s Owen Keal recorded his fouth individual win of the season with a time of 15:29. The Saranac Lake boys prevailed with 10 points, followed by the Blue Bombers with 16 and the Beavers with 42.

Lake Placid’s Aidan Fay was close behind him, finishing in second place in 15:35. Fay’s teammate Colin Francis placed third in 16:15. Keene’s Henry Crowl placed 10th in 19:30.

The Nordic teams were slated to wrap up the regular season on Wednesday at the Scotts Cobble Nordic Center in Lake Placid. The squads will compete in a two-day Sectional Championship next week.

The first day of sectional racing will start on Tuesday at Paul Smith’s College, followed by the final competition on Thursday at Mount Van Hoevenberg. Both events will kick off at 4 p.m.
