SARANAC LAKE — The Paul Smith’s College men’s Nordic ski team secured its third consecutive East Coast Ski Conference Regional Championships title at Dewey Mountain in Saranac Lake this past weekend.

The competition kicked off on Saturday with a classic sprint under the lights, and the Bobcat men’s team wasted no time in asserting their dominance. Aidan Ripp led the pack, taking home the individual championship title. His teammate Phil Matthews placed third overall, while Diego Schillaci was seventh, Timo Ziegler was eighth and Jacob Alberga was ninth.

On the second day, the men’s team continued their winning streak, with Ripp claiming another victory in the 7.5-kilometer race. The team’s strong performances secured them the overall regional championship title once again. Matthews claimed third for the second day in a row and landed on the podium followed by Ziegler and Schillaci in fourth and fifth, respectively.

The women’s team also put on a strong performance and finished two points behind Cornell University in the overall championships.

Paul Smith’s Dolcie Tanguay clinched the individual title on the first day, while Jessie Church secured a fourth-place finish. The women’s team took the win on the first day of the competition. On the second day, Church led the charge with a second-place finish.

Tanguay did not score on the final day of the competition because she was competing for the U.S. biathlon team at the IBU Junior World Championships in Estonia.

“This weekend was incredible. The men’s team really had a special weekend not just the top four but the entire team had great results,” PSC Nordic head coach Matt Dougherty said. “The women’s team’s performance was incredible too — it’s tough to lose by two points, but considering they were without their number one on day two and our number three racer was quite ill, it was an incredible performance. I am so incredibly proud of these teams. Special thank you to Dewey Mountain and everyone who helped make the trails and race great.”

Both teams will now set their sights on the USCSA National Championships in Lake Placid, where they will aim to continue their streak as podium contenders.

Starting at $3.92/week.
