USA Luge medals in Junior World Cup
BLUDENZ, Austria — Aidan Muller of West Islip won a bronze medal at the fifth Junior World Cup event this luge season on Friday, and the doubles team of Logan Barnes and Gavin Davis won silver on Thursday.
Muller clocked a two-run combined time of 1 minute, 5.462 seconds. Marco Leger of Germany won the race in 1:04.961, while Austrian Noah Kallan was second in 1:05.354.
Matt Greiner of Park City, Utah returned from a stint on the World Cup with the National Team, placing seventh in 1:05.925. Seth Coates of Potsdam finished 10th in his second-ever Junior World Cup competition in 1:06.006. Logan Barnes of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was 12th in 1:06.551.
Germany’s Pascal Kunze and Max Trippner took men’s doubles gold in 1:08.279 over Barnes and Gavin Davis of Berwick, Pennsylvania in 1:17.512. Germans Corbinian Hanel and John Paul Kuhmel took third in 1:46.196.
In women’s singles on Thursday, Sophia Gordon of Sussex, Wisconsin placed 11th in 1:07.821. Brianna Gosnell came in 14th place in 1:23.248 in her second-ever Junior World Cup event. Park City athletes Emma Erickson and Macey Schomaker did not start the race.
Germany swept the podium, with Alina Brutigam victorious in 1:05.854. Josephine Buse was second in 1:06.275, with Laura Koch third in 1:06.375.
The Junior World Cup season will take a break next week as the focus shifts to Altenberg, Germany for the World Championships beginning on Friday. The Junior World Cup series will come to an end Feb. 2 to 3 in St. Moritz, Switzerland, followed by the Junior World Championships Feb. 16 to 17 in Lillehammer, Norway.
