High School Roundup: Storm boys fall to Spartans in semifinals

PICKETTS CORNERS — The Saranac Lake boys soccer team suffered a 4-0 loss to the Saranac Central Spartans in the Section VII, Class B Semifinal game on Saranac Central’s home field Friday afternoon.

The Spartans scored three goals in the first half, before netting one after intermission to advance to the sectional title game. Saranac Central will take on Northeastern Clinton at 7 p.m., Wednesday at Plattsburgh High School — a neutral site for the championship game.

The Red Storm finished the season with a 6-11 record overall.

NCCS 10, Saranac Lake 0

The Saranac Lake girls soccer team soccer team was defeated 10-0 by the Northeastern Clinton Cougars in the Section VII, Class B girls semifinal contest on Thursday night.

The Cougars were led by Bailee Lafountain, who netted three goals and chipped in one assist. Northeastern Clinton’s Brynn Hite, Krista Sebert, Emma Guay, Kylee Surprenant, Maddie Arno, Grace McCarty and Lily Natishack recorded one goal each in the win.

The Red Storm were out shot 20-1. Saranac Lake’s Emma Akey, a sophomore, had 10 saves in net. Desiree DuBois had one stop for the Cougars.

Northeastern Clinton will move on to face Saranac Central in the Class B championship at 5 p.m., Wednesday at a neutral host site — Plattsburgh High School. Saranac Lake closed out the season with a 5-8-3 record.

VOLLEYBALL

Lake Placid 3, NCCS 0

After dropping its past two games, the Lake Placid volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep over the Northeastern Clinton Cougars on the road Thursday. The Blue Bombers won by scores of 25-12, 25-14 and 25-17.

Lake Placid was led by Norah Galvin, who recorded a triple-double, with 16 points, 12 assists and 10 aces. Galvin also had two kills and one dig.

Sydney Garrison recorded 10 points, three aces and two kills for the Blue Bombers, while Nadia Phillip chipped in with 12 kills, three points, two aces, one dig and one assist. Lake Placid’s Brooke Beaney had a solid outing with five points and three aces in the win.

The Blue Bombers improved to 4-13 overall. The team will close out the regular season against Plattsburgh on the road at 6 p.m., Thursday afternoon.
