Red Storm softball remains perfect at home

SARANAC LAKE — On Thursday, the Red Storm softball team defeated the Northern Adirondack Bobcats 5-3 in the final home game of the regular season. With the win, Saranac Lake remains undefeated on their home field, while improving to 8-4 overall.

Red Storm senior Karlie Goetz had another solid outing on the mound, striking out 10 batters without allowing a walk. Northern Adirondack’s Grace Cook pitched a complete game, recording three strikeouts. She also walked seven batters and hit two.

After giving up two runs in the top of the third inning, Saranac Lake responded with two runs of their own. In the top of the fifth, the Bobcats once again took a lead, but the Red Storm responded yet again with two runs, before extending their lead in the sixth inning to 5-3.

Freshman Emma Akey led the way at the plate for the Red Storm going 3-for-3 with two singles, a triple and a walk. Saranac Lake finished the game with five total hits.

Northern Adirondack was led by shortstop Abby Peryea, who recorded a single and a double in the Bobcats’ eight-hit effort. Peryea also scored a run in the game.

Following the win, the Red Storm moved up to second place overall in the standings with just one game to go against Moriah on the road Tuesday. The top two teams in the standings will earn a first-round bye, before hosting a playoff game.
