Blue Bombers track sweeps Sentinels

LAKE PLACID — Competing at home for the final time this season, the Lake Placid boys and girls track teams swept the Ticonderoga Sentinels.

The Blue Bombers boys had a solid performance and earned a 74-52 victory. The Lake Placid girls won 75-46. The boys team earned their first win of the season with a 1-3 overall record, while the girls improved to 2-2.

On the girls’ side, the Blue Bombers won all of the distance, sprints and throwing events, while the Sentinels won the jumping and hurdles events.

Lake Placid’s depth then took over with Lilly Rother, Lily Jones, Pia Morrelli and Kai McKinnon each winning two or more events.

Rother, a senior, won the 3,000-meter race in 12 minutes, 4 seconds, while McKinnon, a freshman, won the 800-meter in 2:51. In the 1,500-meter event, the duo tied at 5:28.

Rother and McKinnon teamed up to win the 3,200-meter relay in 12:03. McKinnon also ran a leg in 1,600-meter relay in 4:54. Morelli competed in both relay events, while Holly Erenstone was a part of the 3,200-meter relay and Jones and Clara Boutelle participated in the 1,600-meter relay.

In the sprints event, Morelli won the 200 and 400-meter with times of 29.1 and 1:04.7, respectively. Jones won the 100-meter dash in 14.2 while running a leg in the 400-meter relay alongside Boutelle, Liana Shambo and Zarela Guilli in 58.5.

Jones also won the shot put event at 27 feet, 7 inches, while her teammate Adelisa Ahmemulic won the discus event with a throw of 53-10.

“We had a great showing during our Senior Meet. Our seniors Lilly Rother, Addison Colby, Adelisa Ahmemulic and Monica Mzese had a strong showing,” Blue Bombers co-head coach Caitlin Delaney said in a statement. “We are building into sectionals with one meet left in our regular season.”

In the boys meet, Andrew Scanio, Sean Roth and John Lansing won multiple events to pace the Blue Bombers.

Scanio, a senior, shined in his final home contest, winning the 1,500-meter in 4:48, the 3,000-meter in 10:47 and he was a part of the 3,200-meter relay event alongside, Aidan Fay, Ethan Cash and Jackson Ruppert, that finished in 9:41.

Roth won the 100 and 200-meter dash in times of 12.6 seconds and 26.2 seconds, respectively. Roth also played a role in the team’s 400-meter relay event, which won in a time of 50.7. The relay team consisted of Roth, Lansing, Santos Chappero and Jesse Marshall.

Lansing and Marshall helped the Blue Bombers sweep the jumping events. Lansing won the high jump with a jump of 5 feet and the triple jump with 30-3.5. Marshall won the long jump with 17-6.5.

Colton Kondrat rounded out the Blue Bombers wins, by taking first in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:15.3.

Lake Placid will wrap up the regular season with one final meet on the road Wednesday. The team will take on Seton Catholic at Plattsburgh High School at 4:30 p.m.
