TUPPER LAKE — After getting shutout a week ago, the Tupper Lake football team turned things around in a big way. The Lumberjacks defeated the Onteora Eagles 18-12 on the road Saturday to improve to 3-3 on the season.

“I am very proud of the kids for a hard fought game,” Lumberjacks’ head coach Dennis Klossner said in a statement. “We had to come from behind and with several injuries our offense was still able to move the ball down the field and score.”

Tupper Lake’s running back Brayden Shannon, a sophomore, was solid starting off the game by running for 89 yards on 20 carries, before getting hurt early in the third quarter. The Lumberjacks’ Kyler McClain came in and was solid in hitting the holes and piling up 136 yards on 22 attempts.

Owen Whitman, who started the game at center before switching his position to give some power as a running and block back, had eight carries for 26 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

Tupper Lake’s quarterback Jayden Farnsworth was 6-of-13 on his passing attempts, earning 52 yards and a touchdown pass to Tyler LaPlante.

LaPlante had four catches for 49 yards including the score. Shannon had one catch for one yard and Jamin Whitmore hauled in one catch for two yards.

On the defensive side, Whitman was solid as a utility player, recording five tackles while playing from defensive tackle to inside linebacker. Whitman also had two sacks in the game.

“Our defense played great having to defend the red zone several times due to bad field position after special teams miscues,” Klossner said.

Keegan Dattoma led the team in tackles with six, while Shannon and Lorenzo Galloni had three tackles each. Shannon also has a sack in the win.

LaPlante, Whitmore, Tyler Wood and Logan Flagg had two tackles each, while McClain, Jesse Dattola, and Bryce Hutt each had one tackle.

“I am very proud of our kids as everyone has done a great job stepping up and playing well when their opportunity arrives,” Klossner said.

Tupper Lake will take on the Canton Golden Bears on Saturday. The matchup will mark the second of three games against a Section X opponent this season.

The contest will be held at the John Oliver Football Field and is slated to start at 12 p.m. The Golden Bears are currently 2-4 on the season.

Starting at $3.92/week.
