U.S. International Classic starts today in Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID — Twenty-one U.S. skaters will compete on home ice for a spot on the podium at the U.S. International Figure Skating Classic at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid. The event will start today and end on Friday.

The event is the first stop on the International Skating Union Challenger Series in Figure Skating 2022.

Heiner heads to Lake Placid fresh off a sixth-place finish at the 2022 Philadelphia Summer International.

Chan and Howe are the 2022 U.S. pairs pewter medalists and silver medalists at the ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships 2022. Mokhova and Mokhov, the 2019 U.S. junior pairs pewter medalists, will be making their international debut. Plazas and Fernandez are the 2021 U.S. junior pairs bronze medalists and Wessenberg and Eisenach are the 2022 U.S. junior pairs pewter medalists.

Three ice dance teams will represent the U.S.: Lorraine McNamara and Anton Spiridonov, Eva Pate and Logan Bye, and Katarina Wolfkostin and Jeffrey Chen. McNamara and Spiridonov recently won the gold medal at the 2022 Lake Placid Ice Dance International, and Pate and Bye earned silver at the same event. Wolfkostin and Chen, who finished fourth at the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2022, return to Lake Placid after a bronze-medal finish at the 2022 Lake Placid Ice Dance International.
