Northwood ski team compete in top events
Northwood School/New York Ski Educational Foundation ski team member Lincoln Norfolk became New York’s newest Alpine overall state champion at the Bristol Mountain Ski Resort in Canandaigua this past Sunday.
Norfolk showed off his speed, technical skill, and consistency to land on the podium in all three events. He finished in second place in the super-G competition and took gold in the giant slalom and slalom competitions. Norfolk will shift his focus on U16 Eastern Regional Championship Burke Mountain, Vermont, starting on March 15.
Multiple Northwood/NYSEF skiers were invited to participate in U18 nationals in Vail, Colorado this past weekend. Those athletes included Rowen Norfolk, Kieran Delay, Dominick DeGuardia, Pedro Gonzalo and Macie Eisenhart.
DeGuardia placed in the top six at the U18 nationals. He threw together two quick runs to place him in sixth place in the giant slalom competition. He was one of the three Eastern region skiers to place in the top ten.
Saranac Lake natives and long-time NYSEF skiers Sophia Kelting and Bella Wissler were slated to participate in Junior Nationals in Minneapolis, Minnesota this week.
The first-year Northwood student-athletes will have a packed schedule, competing in the 5K and 10K freestyle, classic sprint, 5K, 10K and 15K classic mass start, as well as, the freestyle mixed relay.
