NYSEF jumpers compete on the road
Athletes from the New York Ski Educational Foundation had a solid weekend of ski jumping at the Salisbury Winter Sports Association Jumpfest in Salisbury, Connecticut this past weekend.
On Saturday, over 10 NYSEF ski jumpers and Nordic combined athletes competed in a variety of events where they picked up multiple podium appearances.
In the target jumping competition on K65 hill, three NYSEF jumpers claimed the top spots in their respective age groups.
Kai McKinnon earned the top spot in the U16 girls’ target jumping competition. McKinnon finished atop the podium with a point total of 108. In the Master’s division, Colin Delaney earned the top spot with a 115.2.
The boys’ U16 division for target jumping saw five NYSEF athletes compete, with two earning a podium spot.
Mitchell Penning took first place with a two jump total of 238.8 and Jack Kroll took second place with a total of 121.2 points on one jump.
NYSEF’s Eli Larkin (105.6), Duncan Van Dorn (98.4) and Henry Loher (96.0) earned fifth, sixth and seventh place, respectively. Will Coffin earned 10th place with a point total of 56.4.
Competing on the K20 hills, the only NYSEF skier in the U10 girls group, Leila Fey (71.0) finished on top of the podium, while Sophie Hoffman (32.4) earned second place in the girls’ U12 division.
On the boys’ side, Coffin took first place in the boy’s U12. Coffin had a two jump total of 95.9.
Van Dorn was able to pick up first-place sweeps on both K20 and K30 hills.
Larkin earned second place on the K30 hill and third place on the K20 hill. Loher earned a podium spot in second place on the K30 hill. Loher took fourth place on the K20.
NYSEF’s Sam Crowl also had a strong performance with a fifth-place on the K20 and a sixth place in the K30 competition. Coffin earned fourth place on the K30.
On the K65, Kroll and Penning took spots on the podium with a second and third place spot, respectively. Larkin, Van Dorn and Loher finished in the fourth through sixth place spots, respectively. Coffin earned 10th place.
In the girls’ U16, McKinnon won her competition on the K65 hill with a two jump total of 180.1.
In the Nordic combined event, McKinnon and Van Dorn won their respective competitions.
McKinnon jumped to a two jump total of 154.2 and had a time of 15 minutes, 21 seconds in the cross country portion. Van Dorn had a two jump total of 117.1 and had a time of 19:29.
Coffin, Larkin and Loher competed in the boys’ U16 jumping event but did not compete in the cross country portion. Larkin had the top jump in the competition with a two jump total of 142.0, but did not compete in the cross country event. Loher had the third-best jump with 87.6, while Coffin had the seventh-best at 30.3.
Kroll and Penning finished in second and third, respectively, in the boys’ U20 category. Kroll had the third-best jump total with 140.9 and finished the cross country race in a time of 17:54. Penning’s jump total was 104.3. He finished the cross country course at 19:41.
