SARANAC LAKE — Saranac Lake’s Kaylen Reiley attended the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Freeski Halfpipe and Slopestyle Project Gold Camp recently.
Reiley, a NYSEF athlete, is currently studying and training full-time with Stratton Mountain School in Vermont. He was selected to attend the camp based on his performances in competitions in freeskiing from November of last year to April of this year.
He participates in the slopestyle discipline. In slopestyle, athletes ski or snowboard down a course that has a variety of obstacles including rails, jumps and other terrain park features. Points are scored for amplitude, originality and quality of tricks.
The project gold camps are camps designed for elite-level talent development in each of the disciplines. The top junior athletes in the country were selected to train together with the United States Freeski Team coaches in a private training venue.
The camp was completely virtual, due to the coronavirus pandemic. The camp held its first session on Sept. 26 with one virtual session each week. The last session was held on Tuesday.
