Cinderella champions

The Saranac Lake Elks team celebrates after winning the Minors youth baseball championship Wednesday night with a 7-3 victory over Acre ADK. The Elks, also known as the “Pink Slippers,” were winless throughout the regular season, but rallied in the playoffs with a win over Sandy Hayes Realty, the top-ranked team, in the first round, a victory over Tupper Lake in the semifinals and then Wednesday’s win over Acre Adk to complete the incredible turnaround. Saranac Lake Surge players Alex Wyndanch and Tyler Hill umpired the championship game. The players were inspired by bubble gum and a pair of pink slippers that the players would touch prior to each at-bat. The Elks team is pictured above.
