Chapot sweeps feature at Lake Placid Horse Show

LAKE PLACID — Laura Chapot swept the top two places in the $2,000 Hampton Inn 1.35m Jumper Class, Thursday’s featured competition at the Lake Placid Horse Shows, Sponsored by Bainbridge Farms, LLC and Presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC.

Chapot, winner of last year’s $100,000 Great American Insurance Group Grand Prix, took an early lead in the class when she rode Umberto to a clean ride in 63.257 seconds over the 13-effort, one-round course designed by Eric Hasbrouck. Eleven rides later, she dropped Umberto to second when she finished clean in 63.222 seconds on Gideon.

Chapot then beat Gideon’s time on her final ride, finishing in 63.211 seconds on Little Firebird. However, a rail down at fence 8 cost her four faults and left Little Firebird in 15th place in the 35-horse field. Chapot’s win gave her three wins in two days, coming on the heels of two wins on Wednesday.

Celebrating 50 years of show jumping in Lake Placid at the North Elba Show Grounds, the Lake Placid Horse Shows feature four show rings with more than 100 classes of competition each week. Action begins at 8 a.m. daily and runs until approximately 5 p.m. Each show is USEF Premier rated for hunters and 6* rated for Jumpers.

Admission to the horse shows is $2 on weekdays and $5 on weekends. Children under the age of 12 are admitted free. Discounts are available for groups of 20 or more.

For a behind the scenes look at the shows, guided walking tours are offered Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 11:30 a.m. The tour groups meet at the Lake Placid Horse Shows retail booth, and tours last approximately one hour.
