Errors hamper Red Storm
High School Roundup
BEEKMANTOWN — The Beekmantown baseball team scored 11 runs in the third inning Monday on the way to a 16-1 victory over Saranac Lake.
“Multiple-error innings continue to hurt us. We had many opportunities to close out the third inning, but an array of errors continued the bleeding and Beekmantown took advantage,” Saranac Lake coach Kyle Mochol said. “When you get 11 runs posted on you in one inning, it certainly makes it difficult to get the momentum swinging back to your advantage.”
Saranac Lake had six errors throughout the game.
The Red Storm, who were the home team in the scorebook despite playing on the road, scored their lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Michael Miller came home after a throwing error by Beekmantown’s catcher.
Casey Sturgeon went 3-for-3 with three singles and a walk to lead Saranac Lake offensively. Robert Stephenson, Jaden Gladd and Miller accounted for the Red Storm’s other hits.
“On offense we seemed to be getting the bat on the ball well enough, but couldn’t put anything big together,” Mochol said. “Looking to put this one behind us, work on the areas we need improvements and make those adjustment so we can win some baseball games.”
Kaden Kowalowski paced Beekmantown at the plate with a home run and four RBI. Nathan Herbert earned the win on the mound after five scoreless innings with four strikeouts and one walk. Herbert also doubled and had a home run in the contest.
Saranac Lake fell to 1-4 with the loss.
