Early goals carry Bombers to win

TICONDEROGA — The Lake Placid girls soccer team scored three goals in the first half Thursday on the way to a 3-1 victory over Ticoderoga.

Lydia Bullock, Natalie Tavares and Beatrice Hollander accounted for the Blue Bombers’ goals, while Shelby Jewtraw was credited with the win in net. Lake Placid improved to 2-0 with the win.

Bullock got the Blue Bombers’ scoring started with a goal at the 9:52 mark of the first half, and Tavares kept it going with a goal at 14:57.

Hollander then took a pass from Tavares and found the back of the net in the 26th minute as Lake Placid went into halftime with a 3-0 advantage.

Summer Snyder scored TIconderoga’s lone goal in the 15th minute of the second half.

VOLLEYBALL

Plattsburgh 3, Lake Placid 1

LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid volleyball team dropped a hard-fought 25-13, 25-23, 18-25, 25-15 loss to Plattsburgh on Thursday.

Laurel Miller accumulated 13 assists, two aces, two blocks and nine service points and Graci Daby had seven assists and nine kills to lead the Blue Bombers.

Molly Channell racked up 17 digs and six aces and Hannah Giroux contributed 16 digs to pace Plattsburgh.

Wednesday

BOYS SOCCER

Saranac Lake 2, Saranac Central 0

SARANAC — The Saranac Lake boys soccer team built a two-goal lead in the first half and was able to hold off Saranac the rest of the way Wednesday in a 2-0 season-opening victory.

Owen Yando and Dzihad Cecunjanin each scored goals within a five-minute span late in the first half. Yando scored first at 31:46 on a pass from Tyler Chase and Cecunjanin tallied at 35:58 on Chase’s second assist.

Brett Dawson was credited with the victory in goal for the Red Storm. Saranac Lake outshot the Chiefs 13-12.
