Baillargeon makes history at Plymouth

SARANAC LAKE – A new chapter in athletics history took place at Plymouth State University as the New Hampshire college fielded a women’s track and field team for the first time this past season.

And as a member of that squad, 2015 Saranac Lake High School graduate Selena Baillargeon took that history a step further as the first Panther track athlete to compete in the ECAC Division III championships.

A freshman shot putter, Baillargeon posted a personal-best throw of 39 feet, 8.75 inches at the championship meet on April 30 that was hosted by the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. She qualified for the ECAC meet with the result.

Baillargeon turned in her qualifying throw at the meet that served as both the Little East Conference and the New England Alliance championships. She finished in fourth place overall to move on to the ECAC championships held on May 19 at Westfield State University.

The former Red Storm thrower and sprinter didn’t fare as well at the ECAC meet, but still came through with a toss of 38-2.75, which was good enough to land her in 20th place in a field of 30 competitors. The effort also placed Baillargeon fourth among the first-year throwers at the championship.

Starting at $3.92/week.
