Making our sidewalks safe
To the editor:
This week, I witnessed an accident in front of the Town Hall of North Elba.
An elderly man had fallen and sustained an open wound to his forehead on the sidewalk in front of the town hall. There was quite a bit of blood on the sidewalk, which had come from the wound on the gentleman’s head. Two weeks ago, I predicted that this was going to happen.
Approximately two weeks ago, I sent a letter to Editor Gereau in Lake Placid.
In this letter, I explained how disappointed I was to discover that a local nonprofit organization can raise millions of dollars to pay for a statue commemorating the 1980 Miracle on Ice, but the town of North Elba, nor the Village of Lake Placid, seem to be able to pay their people to manage the ice on the sidewalks in the downtown area in order to keep everyone safe in Lake Placid.
I am not a psychic, but I had the foresight to see that the sidewalks in the downtown area are creating extremely dangerous conditions for our people, whether they are tourists, locals, or the elderly.
Let’s get back to some basic values, Lake Placid, like taking care of our people. Making the sidewalks safe for pedestrians in the winter in Lake Placid is one small gesture that shows that we care.
