To the editor:

My father, at 85 years old, passed away at the Adirondack Health hospital from pneumonia and other complications on Dec. 22. I was present with him for most of the 30 hours of his stay.

There are not sufficient words to express my gratitude to Dr. Atkinson for his professional care, coupled with a great deal of compassion and gentle realism regarding his condition. The same can be said for nurses Barb and Lexie in ICU.

What was one of the most difficult experiences of my life, was softened by their presence through the long evening into the next afternoon. If I didn’t know better, they were angels sent from heaven. I am eternally thankful.
