Tim has earned supervisor
To the editor:
We are supporting Tim Follos for Wilmington town supervisor. Tim’s knowledge, experience and education will be tremendous assets to our community.
Tim has been a member of Wilmington’s town board for almost four years. Tim’s beliefs, agenda and track record are available to anyone who wants to see them. In addition to his town newsletters, the local newspapers have published quite a few op-eds authored by Tim.
Tim has persevered despite the lies and mudslinging that have been aimed at him. One of their favorites is that Tim is anti-business. Despite what his detractors allege, Tim supports positive development in Wilmington.
Tim continues to push the agenda so many of us would like to see accomplished. He has created and submitted amendments to the zoning ordinance that could protect Wilmington from undesirable development.
Dollar General recently tried to set up in Wilmington. They failed because the APA denied them based on their percolation test results at their proposed location. Some people wanted the store; most did not. But with Tim’s amendments in place, Wilmington has more control over what is built. With Tim’s amendments in place, we can insist that their design provide a higher level of aesthetics.
With Tim’s amendments in place, the KOA trailer park in the middle of Wilmington would not have been possible. They would have had to create a buffer blocking the sightlines from the view of the streets and of their neighbors.
Tim knows that we need to update our comprehensive plan. He will roll up his sleeves and pursue grant opportunities. And he is the only member of the town board to have voted against overriding the “tax cap” in each of the past three years. In short, Tim is exactly what Wilmington needs: Someone who is fully engaged, motivated and determined.
Speaking of which: The candidacy of Sam Haselton.
Sam has shown little interest in town issues in the past few decades or during his younger life. Sam was not present until August, when Favor Smith announced the end of his campaign for town supervisor.
Sam explains that he is seeking political office because he is now retired and has the time. But if he was genuinely interested in Wilmington’s future development or our town’s administration, he could have attended town board or planning board meetings.
He did not.
Sam’s political literature sounds so nice. Not a single sentence of substance or specifics, but it sounds nice. We are just a few days from Election Day, and Sam has yet to offer thoughtful or serious policies or plans.
The choice is clear.
The Wilmington town supervisor is not a job for someone who needs time to get up to speed. Nor is it a job for someone who became interested three months before Election Day.
We’re voting for Tim Follos. We hope you will, too.
He’s earned it.
