State budget brings good news for the arts
To the editor:
The new New York state budget is good news for the Adirondack History Museum and other organizations like us.
We rely on a combination of individual supporters, charitable foundations and government grants to pay for local exhibits, to sponsor local historians and speakers and bring our communities’ stories to life: Logging, hiking, women’s rights, Native Americans, climate change and our forest — it’s all there.
That’s why solid support from the Essex County Board of Supervisors and the NYS Council on the Arts has been so important in recent years.
The new budget approved in Albany calls for $161 million to be distributed statewide — the same as last year. We’ll be competing for our share. And in the face of big funding cuts from President Trump and Congress, we are very grateful for the chance to do that.
Thanks to the governor and state legislature for supporting local community organizations right here in the Adirondacks.
