To the editor:

“One of the things that we see happening today is sort of a sleepwalking into dictatorship,” said former Rep. Liz Cheney during an interview with John Dickerson of CBS News at the UVA’s Rotunda in Charlottesville, Virginia on May 8, 2024.

We are now bearing witness to the alarmingly devastating outcome of that warning at the whim of a wannabe “king” and his multi-billionaire chainsaw-wielding sidekick, in league with an assortment of elected officials, sycophants and lunatic cabinet appointees, bent on nothing less than the destruction of our government, institutions of law and order, and American Democracy as we have known it. We are no longer “sleepwalking into dictatorship,” we are speedwalking. God save the country.
