Grieving
To the editor:
We grieve the fact that hate has won. And fear that freedoms will be lost.
We grieve the loss of decency. And mourn the rise of vulgarity.
We grieve the loss of goodness, kindness, faith, love, honesty, morality.
We grieve that truth has been buried And lies have won. We grieve the loss.
We’re surrounded by death and destruction.
We’re in the midst of conflicts and divisions.
Our leaders are corrupt, cruel, criminal.
Our President is a lying, misogynistic, traitorous felon.
We want to make a difference, but how?
Do not panic.
Cast stones across the water to create ripples.
Remain focused on issues that matter: Health care. Affordable housing. Living wage. Education. Climate Change. Greed. Corrupt finance system.
Educate.
Organize.
Hold Congress accountable to do the right thing.
Fight to create an America based on equality and justice.
Think clearly in a world designed to confuse you.
Awaken to injustice.
Work towards economic, social, racial and environmental justice in America.
Walk in the light.
Speak the truth.
Do not neglect to do good.
In the meantime, enjoy simple things: a walk in the forest, a bowl of hot soup on a chilly day, a hot cup of coffee, a book, a song.
A meal shared with friends.
These bring joy in the midst of sorrow.
Be kind.
Try to make the world a better place.
Hold those you hold dear a little closer and spread the love.
As a community we will get through this.
God help us.
