Celebrating Home Health Care Month

To the editor:

November is National Home Care and Hospice Month, which provides an opportunity to recognize the nurses, home care aides, therapists and social workers who are the backbone of the home health care system.

The North Country region has many individuals who receive home care services, which enables them to remain in the comfort of their homes despite illness, disabilities, or frailness of aging. Nurses and home care aides are the frontline workers who provide the essential care and support individuals need and deserve to maintain their independence and thrive at home.

I am writing today to recognize and express gratitude for the workers who dedicate themselves to making a remarkable difference in the lives of patients and their families.

North Country Home Services aides and nurses, working out of our Tri-Lakes, Malone, Plattsburgh, and Ticonderoga offices, cover approximately 6,000 square miles of our region to make sure those in need of services receive care. Their unwavering commitment to the well-being of our region deserves our respect and appreciation.

The value home care aide services add to a plan of care for an individual cannot be overstated. Home care aides not only provide personal care but serve as the “eyes and ears” for nurses, physicians, and families by observing and reporting health concerns or changes in condition early on before they result in an emergency room visit or hospitalization. Our home care aides and nurses are compassionate and dedicated and bring healing and comfort to those they serve.

This November, let us collectively recognize the unsung heroes providing home health care services to our loved ones.

Sincerely,

Rebecca Leahy
