Saranac Lake 3P’s headline sponsor

To the editor:

RiverTrail Beerworks will serve as the headline sponsor of the annual Saranac Lake 3P race through 2028, brewery and race organizers announced recently.

The brewery, set to open its doors on Woodruff Street in Saranac Lake in 2024, will top a group of sponsors for the annual multi-sport race, which includes downhill and Nordic skiing, biking, canoeing/kayaking and running. There are several 3P (“pole, pedal, paddle”) races nationally but only one in New York state.

Nearly 100 racers registered for the first-ever Saranac Lake 3P race in March. Starting at Mount Pisgah Recreation Center, racers skinned/snowshoed up the mountain before downhill skiing to their bikes at the base. They then rode across the village to Dewey Mountain Recreation Center, where they did two loops on cross-country skis. From there, they rode downtown to the Saranac River where they launched their boats and paddled downstream to the Saranac Lake Fish and Game Club, where they began the final running stretch back to Pisgah.

RiverTrail Beerworks poured its beer to racers at the inaugural event. The race raises funds for local youth outdoors programs.

Next year’s race is scheduled for March 2, the point in the shoulder season when the venues will have adequate snow cover and river accessibility.

RiverTrail Beerworks is tentatively set to open along the Saranac Lake River Walk and near the soon-to-be-completed rail trail connecting Lake Placid, Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake.
