Whatever floats your boat
To the editor:
Lotta talk about “drag” these days. Although drag has been around for a long time, in some unlikely places, it’s not my cup of tea. Whatever floats your boat, as long as you don’t yell your opinions in my face. All the same, “drag” for me meant street racing on Fountain Avenue (Brooklyn) back in the day. So this whole “drag” controversy got me wondering:
When was the last time I saw a grown man wear a dress?
For those who embraced the Punk scene, circa New York City, 1970s, refresh your memory with “Rock and Roll High School (official video).” The “woman” is really Johnny Ramone (king of the down stroke guitar). Did I not care about history? Yes. Did I just wanna have some kicks? All the time. Did I just wanna git some chicks? Oh yeah. Do I remember cruising around in a GTO (1968 convertible) in Bensonhurst? Yes I do. Do I remember the Ramones? Forever. And I remember Rockaway Beach. (But I don’t remember how I got home in the morning.) And I remember singing “Blitzkrieg Bop” walking down the sidewalk in my black leather biker jacket.
So what’s next? Is “Dark Side of the Moon” now a LGBTQ-plus album?
So there is a dude wearing a dress? Yeah, whatever. I’m from south Brooklyn. I’ve seen worse.
