I would like to take this opportunity to thank all involved with the success of the Saranac Lake Central School District’s Distinguished Alumni dinner and awards ceremony. We had a wonderful turnout to celebrate this year’s honorees, Charlie Sporck (Class of 1945) and David Smith (Class of 1954). The dinner was held at the Hotel Saranac and the staff there could not have been more accommodating. The food was wonderful, the service was excellent and the event rooms were beautiful. I would also like to thank Diane Fox and the Saranac Lake Central School District Board of Education for their work and contributions to this event. I am further grateful to Janet Simkins, Emily Fogarty and my wife, Sue Rice for helping with event organization before, during and after the dinner. Thank you also to our media sponsor, the Adirondack Daily Enterprise. And thank you to all the businesses and individuals who donated to our silent auction: Academy and Main, Bitters and Bones, Darrah Cooper Jewelers, Downhill Grill, Grizle T’s, Hotel Saranac, Hyde Fuel, Melissa DeVit, Rice Furniture, Small Fortune Studio and the Village Mercantile. Finally, I would like to thank everyone who came out in support of this event. Not only did we honor Saranac Lake alumni, but we also established the SLCS Foundation to help support community schools and other worthy projects that will benefit our school district. I feel great pride knowing that our community always seems to come out to support each other.
