A cannon salute

To the editor:

The race organizers of the Willard Hanmer Guideboat and Canoe race are dedicating the 60th anniversary running of the race to guideboater Timothy J. Doyle. Tim, an eight-time winner of the one man guideboat race, restored hundred of boat and built five, three of which will be in the race on Sunday. Family and friends are invited to the finish line to celebrate the Adirondack legend, Tim Doyle, and his love and dedication to the race and the art of guideboat building.

The cannon that started the Hanmer for many years has been found. Sam Grimone, of Woods and Waters, has inspected, cleaned and polished it. The sound that can be heard from Lake Flower to the Saranac Lake Fish Game and Club will be sound prior to the first lake race and, then again, at the start of the down river races. A fitting cannon grand salute to Timothy J. Doyle.
