Hillcrest is not built for Main Street traffic
To the editor:
I applaud Greg Borzilleri’s forward thinking regarding the plan to block off Lake Placid’s Main Street to traffic. And while I hate to be a NIMBY, I must point out that Hillcrest Avenue is a busy street already — with a playground. Main Street traffic will make it too dangerous.
As is, Hillcrest should not be a two-way street with parking — cars frequently have to pause when passing each other to avoid a collision. While we have fewer children than in years past, we still have many. And they are biking and scootering and doing things kids do in traffic.
I’m not sure I understand how traffic will be diverted to Hillcrest AND Wesvalley. Will there be police at each to make sure the traffic flow is even?
Removing the parking from Hillcrest for that time span will help, but then how will families who want to use the playground access it?
Before this plan is finalized, I’d very much like to see the plan for keeping Hillcrest safe with the increased traffic.
