To the editor:
On Oct. 6, the 48th annual Lake Placid Classic Half Marathon and 10K was held. This year’s event was the largest in its 48-year history, with over 700 entries. Many of the participants were first-time visitors to our community, experiencing a brilliant fall day.
I would once again like to thank the residents of the village of Lake Placid and the town of North Elba for accepting this, the last road race in our area for the summer of 2018. The Lake Placid Classic is one of the few running events that is not-for-profit and operates entirely with volunteers, with all profits directed at local organizations. This year we are able to add significantly to our six-year total of over $41,000 contributed to the youth of the Lake Placid region.
This event would not be possible without our title sponsors: Adirondack Health, The Fallen Arch and Serenity Packaging Company; Gold sponsors: Long Run Wealth, MVP; Silver support from Lake Placid Family Dental, Kinney Drugs, Lake Placid Pub and Brewery, WSLP/Adirondack 105.5, Balanced Bodyworks, Pepsi-Cola and Lake Placid Sports Medicine; Bronze sponsors: Burnham Financial, Art Devlin’s Olympic Motor Inn, Price Chopper, Wildwood on the Lake and Aldi Foods.
This year’s race received the support from over 70 volunteers from the Lake Placid/Wilmington CYC (Connecting Youth and Communities Coalition) teens, parents and leaders, staff from Adirondack Health, and many members of the Lake Placid community, all contributing to a successful event.
Lastly, I wish to thank the village of Lake Placid, town of North Elba, North Elba Park District, Olympic Regional Development Authority, Greg Borzilleri and Ironman, Lake Placid police, highway and fire departments, Essex County Sheriff’s Department and the New York State Police. Without their enormous support, this event would not be possible.
Sincerely,
Rick Preston
