Lindy Ellis has the heart of a servant

To the editor:

I am writing to share why I will be voting for Lindy Ellis for county legislator this fall. Simply put, she is a natural leader who isn’t seeking the spotlight, a quality often lacking in those who seek public office. She truly has the heart of a servant, I’ve seen it on countless occasions in the few years that I have known her.

We met initially through the Winter Carnival Canoodler Drill Team. She always greets me and others with a smile and a sincere word. When asking, “How are you?” she means it and sticks around to listen to your response. If your reply isn’t a positive one, she may not have an immediate solution, but know that the concern is not forgotten and she will be working on it. As a member of the Canoodlers she does not have an official leadership role, but others often look to her for guidance in the routine as she is quick to learn and happy to help those struggling. Lindy prefers not to be at the very front, which many in the far back appreciate as she becomes a visual guide to those that cannot see the head of the line. She is a natural teacher, patient and adept at communicating with others, and on many occasions has offered her free time up to rehearse outside of scheduled practices. I know these qualities and skills easily translate in her role as county legislator.

Lindy has been a visible member in our community well before seeking office. She is often at community events such as the farmers market but more importantly taking an active, supporting role in projects like the SkatePark, World Snowshoe Championships, Parks and Trails Advisory Board, Franklin County Industrial Development Agency and Franklin County Traffic Safety Board, or perhaps enjoying the beauty of the Adirondacks on a tandem bicycle with her husband.

She is always looking out for the best interest of others and is resourceful at finding solutions to problems and supporting others in the process. She is able to navigate bureaucracy and connect people to the information they need. I can attest to this when, out of the blue, she presented me with a gift of an herbal remedy she had learned about in a business meeting for an ailing family member of mine. Not only the gift of the tincture, but a packet of information and notes she had taken during the presentation. In this instance she was casually aware of our situation, but I had never directly reached out to her. She has many irons in the fire and handles these tasks with ease.

Finally, I work with children in our community and am aware of the many needs that face our local families, I am confident Lindy can tackle those needs with compassion and grit, as I have seen her open her heart and pour her energy out for strangers. No one is a stranger long for Lindy; she is a fast friend. I was pleased to hear of her appointment to the vacancy of county legislator and am eager to cast my vote to keep her there this fall. I hope others will consider her as well.

Sincerely,

Lindsay Anderson
