Help us chronicle your lives in 2026

As we turn the page on yet another year evanescing here in the Tri-Lakes, I’d like to take this opportunity to extend a heartfelt thank-you to our subscribers, as well as the local advertisers who allow us to continue publishing this community newspaper.

Without you, this storied organization would most certainly go dark, taking with it more than 130 years of rich history in delivering the local news, events and happenings important to your daily lives.

The way I look at it, we are incredibly lucky.

Not only are we blessed to live in one of the most beautiful places on Earth, but we also enjoy a serenity and lifestyle akin to some of the most remote places in the world. Places where time slows a bit and riches take a back seat to basic needs and simple comforts.

Places where you can still sit down in the morning with a cup of coffee, steam rising over the open pages of a broadsheet newspaper.

Call me nostalgic, but it’s a way of life I truly pray never ends. And, it does not go unnoticed by those visiting this area.

If I had a nickel for every time a wayward tourist popped in our office here on Broad Street in awe of the fact that our residents still support their community newspaper, I’d be eyeing an early retirement.

Well, retirement might be a slight exaggeration, but you get my gist.

The fact of the matter is that we are a resilient bunch here in the North Country that takes care of its own. It’s what makes this region and the people who call it home so special — a fact that certainly is not lost on me.

So, as we hurtle headfirst into the New Year, I’m going to make my own resolution — and that is to work diligently to give our readers what they tell me they crave most: More local news of importance you cannot find anywhere else.

I truly want our publications to be a reflection of the communities we serve and the people who support what we do.

However, I will need your help to get it done.

While we have a tremendous staff here who work incredibly hard gathering the news, the simple reality is we just cannot be everywhere.

So, I am asking you all to aid in this quest.

Put simply, I need you to be our eyes and ears — alerting us when news happens and submitting items and photographs whenever it is not feasible for our staff to be there themselves.

Are you a school administrator or educator with a story to share? A parent attending a school sporting event or moving up ceremony? A chamber official or event coordinator who would like to see an increase in turnout or coverage afterward? Then, by all means, I urge you to submit these items.

Please, use us as a resource. Doing so not only helps build this community newspaper but also our communities as a whole.

I think that’s a goal for 2026 we can all get behind.

Local news is the best news, and a photo of your child clipped from the newspaper and pinned to a bulletin board will have significantly more impact in the long term than a Facebook or Instagram post. The more names and faces we can publish in 2026, the better.

We want to be a part of your lives and help chronicle what matters most.
