We just marked the 100th anniversary of Christy Mathewson’s death, and the World Series started this week, so this new donation was perfectly timed! This photograph shows one of the Saranac Lake baseball teams, likely in the early 1920s. The man standing with the straw boater hat at center is the famous heavyweight boxer Jack Dempsey. Dempsey was a friend of the Mathewson family, and made several visits to Saranac Lake in the early 1920s.
