Where do you go when you need to have fun and blow off a little steam? For many decades, that place was Birk’s Swiss Chalet on the Bloomingdale Road. The restaurant, dance hall and bar was operated by Frank Birk from 1923 until shortages during WWII led to its closure. The club was cited at least once for serving alcohol during Prohibition. This postcard includes a view of the heavily decorated dining room, including “trees” that sprouted from support columns. (Photo provided — Historic Saranac Lake Collection, 2009.4.1.
