Hunter Haynes came to Saranac Lake to cure in 1916. He was a barber, inventor, manufacturer, motion picture producer and director, and entrepreneur. He invented the ready-to-use Haynes Razor Strop and developed the product into an international business. Mr. Haynes’ father and mother were both former slaves. Haynes stayed on Lake Flower Avenue, and died of tuberculosis in Saranac Lake on Jan. 1, 1918. This ad for his company was originally printed in the “Colored People’s Blue Book and Business Directory of Chicago, Ill., 1905.”
