Janice Diane Goldberg White
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Janice Diane (Goldberg) White, devoted wife of Rabbi Kenneth Nathan (dec.), beloved mother of Joshua Daniel and Rachel Leah White. Janice passed away on Thursday, Nov. 6 at the age of 79.
Janice was born Aug. 18, 1946 and raised in University City, Missouri, where she graduated from University City High School in 1964. She treasured the friendships she made there and maintained close, meaningful connections with many of her classmates throughout her life.
While working at St. Louis University, Janice met Rabbi Kenneth White, whom she married and shared life with for 48 years until his passing in 2021. Early in their marriage, they lived in Israel, volunteering with the Association for Americans and Canadians. Her lifelong love for the Jewish people blossomed into a deep and passionate connection to the land of Israel during this time.
Janice devoted herself fully to her family. As her husband served Jewish communities across the country through various pulpit positions, she was the steady heart and emotional center of the home. She raised her children with warmth, humor and simple but powerful wisdom — often reminding them, “If you die with only one good friend, then you’ve lived a good life.” She lived those words, nurturing many loyal and lasting friendships, each one unique and deeply valued.
After retirement, Janice and Kenneth returned “home” to St. Louis, fulfilling a promise he made early in their marriage. There, she reconnected with friends she had cherished for over 50 years and continued giving back to the community by volunteering at the Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry through Jewish Family Services.
Her greatest pride and joy remained her family. She showed unwavering love and support for her children and later poured the same devotion into her grandchildren.
Janice is survived by her children Joshua Daniel (46) and Rachel Leah (43); and her grandchildren Yonason Yakov (9), Chana (7) and Pinchas Dov (2).
