Arlene Mae Hogan

Arlene Mae Hogan, age 82, passed away on Friday, Nov. 21, 2025. She was born to Milton and Cora Bombard on Nov. 10, 1943. After attending Saranac Lake High School, she married Floyd W. Hogan on Sept. 5, 1959 and spent 62 happy years together in Gabriels, New York and Deland, Florida. She passed peacefully in her sleep in the care of her son and daughter-in-law in Blaine, Washington shortly after her birthday.

Arlene always had a smile on her face. She loved to laugh. Always a gracious homemaker, her meals, snacks and, most especially, her desserts, were appreciated by friends and family alike. Gardening, landscaping and sewing were also pastimes she enjoyed.

She was a long-standing member of the Catholic church, involved in fundraising, membership in the Catholic Daughters and as a teacher of Sunday School classes.

One of her greatest passions was listening to music and dancing with her husband to standards from the ’50s and her favorite classic country music artists. Another was softball. Her favorite memories are playing first base for the Floyd’s Collision Shop team (with nieces Cindy and Joanne) for an undefeated season and championship in the late 1970s.

She served as the tax collector for Brighton County for many years until she and Floyd retired to Florida. Arlene and Floyd loved their sons and grandchildren, and that love and care extended over the years to many neighborhood children whom they welcomed into their lives, often referring to them as Aunt Arlene and Uncle Floyd.

Her greatest pride and joy were her three grandchildren. She and Floyd loved being grandparents and provided the boys with countless cherished memories which they carry with them to this day.

Arlene is survived by her sons Thomas (Melanie) Hogan and William (Karen Richards) Hogan; her grandsons Matthew (Julia Zepka) Hogan and Ryan Hogan and their mother Kay Weir, and Maximilian (Mebae Nishimura) Hogan and his mother Te Avalon; sisters Carolyn McCormick and Judy Jones; nephew David (Nanette) McCormick; brother-in-law Francis J. Hogan; nieces Cindie (Glenn) Perrino and Robin (James) Hogan Law; and nephew Francis J. (Denise) Hogan Jr.

A service for Arlene will be in Gabriels in the late spring.
