Robert Alger Boyer
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and dedicated public servant Robert Alger Boyer, of Naples, Florida, and Lake Placid, New York, passed away on March 27, 2025, after a life devoted to family, community and service. Born Nov. 21, 1950, to Fletcher and Ruth Boyer, in Albany, Rob grew up in the heart of the Adirondacks, where his deep appreciation for nature and community first took root.
Rob’s commitment to public service began early. He served as a hunter safety officer, a volunteer fireman, and eventually as fire captain in Lake Placid. Following his involvement with the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, Rob, along with his wife and children, relocated to Naples, Florida, in February 1981.
His lifelong dream of becoming a professional firefighter became a reality in April 1981 when he joined the East Naples Fire Department. Rob faithfully served the department as a firefighter, dive rescue engineer and later as a commissioner. His dedication extended beyond firefighting — he was also elected to the Collier County Mosquito Control Board, where he served for 16 years.
Rob shared 52 devoted years of marriage with his beloved wife, Ronna Boyer. He was a proud father to Michelle Doel (Jason Hicks) of Springfield, Missouri, and Mark Boyer of Cumming, GA. He cherished his grandchildren, Rachael Doel of Chicago, and Ryan Doel of Springfield, Missouri, and was a caring brother to Clark Boyer of Averill Park, New York. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fletcher and Ruth Boyer, and his twin brother, Richard Boyer.
Family was Rob’s foundation, and he could often be found on the sidelines of lakes, soccer fields, baseball fields and pool decks, cheering on his favorite athletes. He remained active in his children and grandchildren’s sports and hobbies, creating lasting memories through shared passions and support.
A man of many interests, Rob was a true hobbyist. He took great pride in restoring his 1940 Ford Coupe, enjoyed hunting and trap shooting, selling clays, attending hockey games and treasured his regular breakfasts with his dear friend, Greg Speers. Rob also showed dogs, attending Westminster with his dog, Buddy, and valued his breeding mentorship and partnership with Geri Kelly.
Summers spent four-wheeling with his brother Clark were among his favorite pastimes. He would often enjoy laughter and “beer-thirty” camaraderie with friends in Lake Placid in the summer. Rob and Ronna made meaningful holiday memories traveling to Georgia and Missouri to be with family at Christmas time.
Rob will be remembered for his steadfast dedication to his community, his joy in reminiscing and the warmth he shared through stories and friendship. His legacy of service and love will live on in all who knew him.
In addition to his immediate family, Rob is survived by nieces and nephews Kathy Boyer of Rough and Ready, California, David Boyer of Averill Park, New York, and Jennifer Mihill of Lake Placid.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 26 at 11 a.m. at North Elba Cemetery, 76 Old Military Road, Lake Placid, New York, 12946. Friends and family are welcome to gather and celebrate Rob’s remarkable life. The M. B. Clark, Inc., Funeral Home in Lake Placid is in charge of arrangements.
