William (Bill) Turner

William (Bill) Turner, 80, of Tupper Lake, passed away on Friday, Sept. 27, 2024, at Highland Hospital in Rochester, New York, with his daughter by his side.

Born on May 18, 1944, in Saranac Lake, he was the son of Leo Dudley and Viola Evelynn (Ducatt) Turner.

Bill graduated from St. Bernard’s School in Saranac Lake. In his younger days, he worked at Fish Creek doing odds and ends. He also worked harvesting ice from Mirror Lake to line the luges in Lake Placid. In his early 20s, he started at Sunmount DDSO in Tupper Lake and retired as supervisor over 40 years later. From there he became a “snow bird” and lived six months of the year in Brooksville, Florida. After retiring from Sunmount, he found joy in splitting and stacking wood alongside his dear friend Bruce Gonyea, and he often frequented the Trail’s End, where he shared countless stories and good times with friends.

Bill cherished his winter home in Brooksville, where “tottie time” with his many friends brought him great joy. An avid golfer, his enthusiasm for the game was only matched by his incredible sense of humor and a laugh that could light up any room. A truly great man, William touched the lives of many with his warm words and vibrant personality; he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.

Bill is survived by his daughter Margo Bogart and her husband Hank and granddaughter Sage Butler, of Marion, New York; brother Errol Turner and his wife, Letan of Jacksonville, Florida; and numerous family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Leo Dudley and Viola Turner; and siblings Daniel Turner, Timothy D. Turner, Leo Turner and Francis (Frank) Turner.

The family wishes to invite family and friends for a celebration of life from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 at Trails End, 1880 state Route 30, Tupper Lake. Graveside services will be held privately at the convenience of the family in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Frary Funeral Home, Tupper Lake.
