Alta C. White

Alta C. White, age 86, of Forestview Manor, Meredith, New Hampshire and formerly of Center Harbor, New Hampshire passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 25, 2024.

Born in Schuyler Falls, New York on June 2, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth E. and Pearl (Banker) Supernaw.

Upon graduating from Peru Central School in 1956, she met and married Roland L. White on Sept. 15,1956 in Peru. Together they started their family of six children in Lake Placid. Alta was first a homemaker and mom, then later employed for several years as a waitress at Howard Johnson’s Restaurant in Lake Placid and, following their move to New Hampshire at Bald Peak Colony Club in Melvin Village, New Hampshire, in charge of planting and maintaining the beautiful flower gardens around the club. Roland and Alta also owned and operated the Melvin Village General Store from 1994 to 2001.

Alta is survived by her six children — Kathy Elliott of Laconia, New Hampshire; Carol (Gary) Manley of Keene; Ronald (Barbara) White of Alton Bay, New Hampshire; Deanna White of Stratham, New Hampshire; Karen (Roy) Sheasby of Keene; Nanette (Jack) Carpenter-Brooks of Lawrence, Massachusetts; 15 grandchildren — Kristen Elliott, Jessica (Keith) Wilkins, Heather (Joseph) Difederico, Erin (Grant) Brassard, Zaccarie (Danielle) White, Nichole (Aji) Brightman, Jeremiah Sira, Meaghan Bailey, Jennifer Lawrence, Brett (Brittany Anne) Guerin, Brittany Guerin, Kara Carpenter, Ashley Young, Jillian Carpenter, Joshua Carpenter; 20 great-grandchildren — Mikah Wilkins, Coleton, MaKenna and Evan Difederico, Logan and Samuel Estes, Christopher and Logan White, Elysa, Paisley, Peter and Allison Sira, Ryleigh and Camden Guyette, Emerson Sayers, Avery and Alayna Guerin, Payton, Bryson and Logan Young. Alta is also survived by her siblings Linda Parent, Gerald (Bud) Supernaw, Bonnie LaDuke, Sandra Whitcomb, as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Alta was predeceased by her husband Roland, brother Eugene LaDuke and sister-in-law Lottie, brothers-in-law Bernard Parent and Chester LaDuke, sister Karen Joyce Martineau and brother-in-law Jack Martineau, niece Annette LaDuke Dabrowski and infant grandson Christopher Lawrence White.

The family would like to thank the staff at Forestview Manor for the care and compassion provided to Alta over the last few years.

A memorial Mass will be held at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Lake Placid on Friday, July 5, 2024, at 1 p.m. A graveside burial will be held at St. Agnes Cemetery Powerhouse Lane, Lake Placid immediately following the service.
