William E. Jones

William Edward (Bill) Jones, 89, of Glens Falls and Raquette Lake, passed away peacefully, at home on Wednesday June 5, 2024, with his loving family by his side. Bill fought a courageous battle with many illnesses for the past two years.
Born on Feb. 28, 1935, in Granville, New York, he was the son of the late Owen A. and Dorothy M. Jones.
Bill moved to Glens Falls at the age of 2 and graduated from Glens Falls High School in 1953. He joined the Army in 1954, going to the Aberdeen Proving Grounds for Technical Intelligence. He went on to the Martial Islands to be stationed at Eniwetok as one of the few remaining active participants of the Atomic Nuclear Bomb testing grounds in 1955 and 1956. He was discharged from the Army in 1957.
Bill married the love of his life, Charlotte M. Hoag on July 16, 1955. They were always together. One never saw her without him by her side. Together they raised a family of five children and many beagles.
Bill worked for Scott Paper Company for 35 years, retiring as maintenance supervisor. He went on to work at Hanaan Engineering, Spare Time Lanes and lastly for the state Department of Environmental Conservation at Brown Tract Ponds Campgrounds.

Through the years, Bill was very active in the community. He was president and a coach for the Glens Falls Little League and cubmaster of Pack 11 in the Boy Scouts. As an avid bowler, he held many secretary/treasurer positions in several leagues. He was an outdoorsman and member of the Raquette Lake Fish and Game Club. He was also a member of the Raquette Lake Fire Department.
Bill was a member of the IOOF, American Legion, and lifetime member of NAAV (National Association of Atomic Veterans).
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Charlotte M. (Hoag) Jones; children Kathy A. (Joseph) Wassel, Matthew W. Jones, Lorraine M. Jones and Thomas R. (Linda Mease) Jones; grandchildren Amy (Jason) Dubay, Cassey (Kyle) Byrne, Sarah (Donald) Bauer and Jeremiah Dickinson; sisters Beverly (Louis) Rosati, Margaret (John) Wright, Marie (Thomas) Harrington, Shirley (Jack) Delorenzo and Helen (Vince) Potter; brothers David O. (Marcia) Jones, Richard (Barb) Jones, John (Debra) Jones and Donald (Betty) Jones; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and lifelong friends in both Glens Falls and Raquette Lake. Bill made friends wherever he went.
In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his son Michael O. Jones; granddaughter Jean E. Burnett; and sister Marilyn (Jones) Fiore.
The family of Mr. Jones would like to thank Dr. Yun at the Cancer Center, Dr. Blood, Nurse Jordan and staff at Glens Falls Hospital Towers 3 and 5. Also, Sean Campanie, Hilary Jones and staff at Homeward Bound for the care they all provided.
Calling hours are scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday June 13 at the Regan Denny Stafford Funeral Home, 53 Quaker Road, Queensbury NY 12804. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, and burial will follow at the Glens Falls Cemetery on Bay Street, Glens Falls. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
