Clare Ann Farrington

Born in Potsdam, she grew up in Saranac Lake and married Malcolm D. Farrington on Oct. 9, 1950.

Clare and Micky raised their family in the Adirondacks, raised and raced sled dogs, enjoyed winter sports, hunting, fishing, camping and regular extended family celebrations. Clare knit ski sweaters and mittens every year for her children and took them on excursions to historic places. She was a Cub Scout mother, who included us in learning to tap maple trees and then boiling the sap into syrup.

After moving to New Mexico, they continued to enjoy hunting and fishing, raising a few cattle, sheep, chickens, dog and cats. Clare was a docent at the Albuquerque Bio Park for several years, taking the zoo van with a snow leopard cub or parrot around the state to educate and entertain at schools. When Malcolm retired, they began traveling, visiting most of the National Parks and her family in Alaska and across the country. She was a great cook; everyone especially loved her bread.

Clare (Nana) loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, teaching them to paint, taking them to the zoo and weekend coffee or yard sale dates with her grandkids. They were recipients of the many quilts she made with her painting and quilting club. Nana was always ready to help with building or making things that were needed.

Clare was preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm D. Farrington; parents Bernard and Ella (Gratto) McCormick; brothers Russell and Richard; sister Mary (McCormick) Stoffel; and son Michael.

She is survived by her daughters, Sandra and husband John Bolger, Judith and husband Thomas Grapengeter, Lucille Farrington, and C. Jean Seifried; grandsons Daniel, Joseph (Roxi), Izy (Mel), John, Christopher and Michael (Rhandie) Grapengeter, James Bolger, and Cody (Sophie) Farrington; granddaughters Tabi (Grapengeter) Jayd, Peace (Grapengeter) and Kyle Hartman, Charity (Grapengeter) and Bryan House, Lizann Bolger, Sarah Seifried and Gene Ortiz and Hannah (Seifried) and Steven Trujillo; 31 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Clare’s ashes will be interred next to her husband in Santa Fe National Cemetery.
